Sanaam Luang (near the Viengtai, our first-stop hotel) first day in BKK. This weekend market, which used to be a mile or so walk around a huge field, was moved because it was so close to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and the Grand Palace. The weekend market now, which is much more extensive, and in fact REALLY COOL, is out at Chatuchak . . . take the Skytrain out to Mo Chit (Dr. Chit!), the last stop, & walk across the street.

Luuksya (= tiger cubs, Boy Scouts) . . . every Thursday was luuksya day, and practically all the boys would come to school in uniform-- the girls did something similar . . . Red Cross? Anybody remember?

A food stall in pre-communist Vientiane, Laos, one of the wildest cities on earth in those days.

Is this infectious enthusiasm, or what?
